Kuccps Revision of Courses and choices 2018/2019

The first revision of Degree, Diploma and Certificate choices for the 2017 KCSE candidates began on January 24, 2018 by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) 2018/2019. Candidates are advised to Log into student portal to know about the Kuccps cluster points for the courses they want to undertake. What does revision of course choices entail?

Revision of choices is a student placement process whereby KCSE candidates are allowed to login to the placement portal students.kuccps.net, view degree, diploma and certificate courses available under Government sponsorship, and select the courses they wish to study in institutions of their choice. If they had submitted their choices while in school, they may revise/chance their choices to realign them to their examination performance, interests, and career aspirations.

Why is the first revision important?

Since it takes after students have received their KCSE results, they are able to realign their choices to their performance. In addition, the students may have gained new insights and experiences after school, relating to careers, hence the need to give them an opportunity to revise the lists of courses they submitted in school.

What do you need in order to revise your choices?

You need access to the Internet, as the revision is automated through an online system. You will also be charged a service fee of Ksh1,000 (Ksh1,500 if you are submitting an application for the first time). The revision also offers the candidates the opportunity to update their personal information such as contacts to enable the Placement Service and the universities/colleges to get in touch with them during the placement and admission process.

If you did your KCSE examination earlier than 2017, can you apply for placement to a degree course under Government sponsorship?

No. However, you are eligible for placement to a diploma / certificate course subject availability of vacancies in the course of your choice and meeting the entry requirements.

Do Government-sponsored students receive funding?

Government sponsorship in in the form of tuition subsidies through Government capitation. Therefore, Government-sponsored students, in principle, are meant to pay subsidised fees. In addition, they are eligible to apply for loans and bursaries from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

How can applicants access the online placement system?

To access the online placement system, you may directly log into the portal students.kuccps.net. Alternatively, visit the Placement Service website www.kuccps.ac.ke, and click on the link “Student’s Portal”. Once on the portal, you will find other useful information such as available degree, diploma and certificate courses, public and private universities, and colleges.
