2019 Census shortlisted candidates

Kenya National Bureau of Statistics advertised for the census 2019 Ict supervisors,Content supervisors and enumerator jobs in June countrywide.

After a successful recruitment exercise in all the counties candidates have been shortlisted for an interview.

Mark you being shortlisted doesn’t necessarily mean you have been selected for the job.

The exercise will kick off on August 24 to August 31 and it will be the first time Kenya will have her first digital census.

The census will focus on eight key areas, among them population characteristics, disability, education, labour force, ICT, livestock, agriculture, housing conditions and amenities as well as household assets.

KNBS started hiring census staff in June.

It expects to have 135,000 enumerators, 27,000 content supervisors, 2,700 ICT supervisors alongside village elders and security personnel.

Data entry in the 2009 census took six months.

The 2009 census cost 80 million US dollars and was 90 per cent government funded while the 2019 census is expected to cost more.

Training of the hired personnel

The training of the successful chosen candidates will begin on July 15th that is next week.

After the interviews of the various positions is completed only the qualified ones will be given the jobs.

The ICT supervisors will train the content supervisors who will in turn train the enumerators for the digital census.

Job vacancies at KNEC 2019

Ict supervisors

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the County Statistics Officer (CSO), the job holder will be responsible for undertaking census activities before, during and after enumeration exercise.

Key responsibilities

1.)Training content supervisors and ensuring that Enumerators are adequately trained

2.)Working with the content Supervisors to ensure that the census enumeration starts at the agreed time in the assigned supervision areas.

3.) Carrying extra census equipment/materials to be given to the Content Supervisors in case of emergencies.

Providing technical support on ICT issues to Content Supervisors and Enumerators in case of emergencies.

4.) Any other duties as may be assigned by the CSO.

Requirements for the appointment of ICT Supervisors 

1. They must be a Kenyan Citizen, eighteen (18) years and above

2. Must be a resident of the sub-county where they will be assigned to work.

3. Must have at least a Diploma certificate in Information Communication Technology or any other relevant qualifications related to Information Technology (IT) from a recognized Institution.

4.Should have good communication skills.

5. Must have good leadership skills.

6. Should be available for an uninterruptible period of at least twenty three (23) days from 12th August to 2nd September 2019.

Enumerators

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Content Supervisor, the Enumerator will be responsible for enumeration during the Census.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Identifying boundaries for the Enumeration Areas (EAs), locating all structures and visiting every household to list all the usual members in the EA assigned to them before the enumeration exercise;
  2. Ensure that all the necessary equipment/materials to be used for enumeration are available to them before the exercise commences;
  3. Administering all questions and recording responses on all persons who will have spent the night of 24th/25th August 2019 in each of the households in the assigned Enumeration Area.
  4. Obtain complete and accurate answers and capturing them correctly during the enumeration exercise;
  5. Forward all equipment and questionnaires (used and unused), maps, notebooks and any other materials as directed to the Content Supervisor after the enumeration exercise;
  6. Undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the CSO.

Requirements for Appointment

  1. Must be a Kenyan Citizen, eighteen (18) years and above;
  2. Must be a resident of the enumeration area or neighboring enumeration area they will be assigned to work in;
  3. Be conversant with the local language/dialect;
  4. Should be Computer literate or be able to use smart phones;
  5. Must have at least form four (4) level of education with a minimum of KCSE grade of C (plain) or its equivalent qualification;
  6. They must be available for at least uninterruptible period of sixteen (16) days from 15th to 31st August, 2019.

Note; payment is ksh 1500 per day

Content Supervisors

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the County Statistics Officer (CSO), the job holder will be responsible for the census activities before, during and after enumeration exercise.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Training all the enumerators under their supervision;
  2. Ensuring that all materials and equipment required (mobile devices and accessories) for training for the Enumerators and enumeration areas under their supervision area are in place;
  3. Assigning enumeration areas to the Enumerators under their supervision;
  4. Liaising with the Village Elder, Assistant Chief or Chief to identify all the special population groups, i.e. in institutions, hotels/lodges, travelers, out-door sleepers, among others in the supervision area;
  5. Undertake census enumeration in the resampled households
  6. Keep a register of Enumerators who are assigned to work under them;
  7. Ensuring that everybody in the supervision area has been enumerated;
  8. Submit all the equipment/questionnaires to the CSO;
  9. Any other duties as may be assigned by the CSO.

Requirements for Appointment

  1. Must be a Kenyan Citizen, eighteen (18) years and above;
  2. Must be residents of the location where they will be assigned to work in;
  3. Be conversant with the local language/dialect in the area they will be working;
  4.  They must have at least a Diploma Certificate in any field:
  5. Should possess good communication skills and demonstrate ability to work in teams;
  6. Must have leadership skills
  7. They must be available for an uninterruptible period of at least twenty-three (23) days from 12th August to 2nd September, 2019.

How to access the list

The list of shortlisted candidates by KNBS can only be accessed by visiting where you submitted your application letter.

For instance, those who applied for Enumerators should visit the sub chief’s office where the list has been pinned. Shortlisting of candidates in various regions is ongoing till 14th July.

If you applied for Content Supervisor and ICT supervisor, visit your chief’s office where you will find the list pinned at the chief office.
